Hormones are secreted by the endocrine glands. Endocrine means "the internal secretion of a gland." Another name for them is ductless glands, because they don't send their secretions into ducts but directly into the bloodstream. Hormones are also produced by some organs such as the liver and the kidney, but most of the hormones in the body come from glands. Each of the various hormones produces its own special effect in the body. 

ฮอร์โมนผลิตหรือหลั่ง (secrete- noun - ซีคริท) โดยต่อมไร้ท่อ  (endocrine glands  - noun - อินโดคริน AE/อินโดไครยน์ BE) Endocrine หมายถึง "การหลั่งภายในของต่อม" อีกชื่อหนึ่งสำหรับพวกมันคือ ductless glands เพราะพวกมันไม่ได้ส่งสารคัดหลั่ง(secretion - noun - ซีครี'เชิน) เข้าไปในท่อแต่ส่งตรงไปยังกระแสเลือด (bloodstream - noun - บลัดซึตรีม) ฮอร์โมนยังผลิตโดยอวัยวะอื่นๆอย่างเช่นตับและไต แต่ฮอร์โมนส่วนใหญ่ในร่างกายมาจากต่อมต่างๆ ฮอร์โมนแต่ละตัวสร้างคุณสมบัติเฉพาะของมันเองในร่างกาย

In general, the job of the hormones is to regulate the internal activities of the body, such as growth and nutrition, the storage and use of food materials, and the reproductive processes. If the glands produce too much or not enough, a person may have an abnormal physical appearance.

โดยทั่วไป หน้าที่ของฮอร์โมนคือควบคุม(regulate - verb - เรก'กิวเลท) กิจกรรมภายในร่างกาย เช่น การเจริญเติบโตและโภชนาการ การจัดเก็บและการใช้สารอาหาร และกระบวนการสืบพันธุ์ (reproductive - adj - รีโพรดัคทีฟ - เกี่ยวกับการสืบพันธุ์/reproduction - noun - รีโพรดัคเชิล - การสืบพันธุ์) หากต่อมผลิตมากเกินไปหรือไม่เพียงพอ อาจทำให้มีลักษณะผิดปกติ (abnormal - adj - แอบนอร์' เมิล) ทางกาย

Here are what some of the chief glands and hormones do in our bodies:

• The thyroid gland, located in the neck, produces a hormone which helps in the growth, development, and metabolic processes of the body.
  
  ต่อมไทรอยด์ (thyroid gland - noun - ไธ'รอยด์ แกรนด์) ซึ่งอยู่ที่คอจะผลิตฮอร์โมนซึ่งช่วยในการเจริญเติบโต พัฒนา และกระบวนการเผาผลาญของร่างกาย.
   
• The pituitary gland, located at the base of the skull, has two parts. As we know, one hormone produced by one part of this gland has the job of promoting growth. Another part of the pituitary gland produces two hormones which help control our use of water, fat, our blood pressure, and the way we regulate the heat in our body.
  
  ต่อมใต้สมอง (pituitary gland - noun - พิทู'อิเทอรี แกรนด์) ซึ่งอยู่ที่ฐานของกะโหลกศีรษะมีสองส่วน จากที่เราทราบ ฮอร์โมนชนิดหนึ่งถูกผลิตโดยส่วนแรกของต่อมนี้มีหน้าที่ช่วยในการเจริญเติบโตของร่างกาย อีกส่วนหนึ่งของต่อมใต้สมองผลิตฮอร์โมน 2 ชนิด ซึ่งช่วยควบคุมการใช้น้ำ ไขมัน ควบคุมความดันโลหิต และวิธีที่เราควบคุมความร้อนในร่างกาย
   
• There are two important glands located at the upper end of each kidney. One produces a hormone called adrenalin. This hormone is related to blood pressure and reactions to emotion and emergencies. When you become excited or frightened, you produce more of this hormone.

So you see that hormones are responsible for a great deal about you and your health.
