แซงคิว ภาษาอังกฤษพูดว่าอย่างไร

เมื่อวานมีน้องที่ทำงานถามว่าคำว่า แซงคิว ภาษาอังกฤษพูดว่ายังใง วันนี้ผมก็เลยอยากที่จะนำเสนอคำนี้ คำว่า queue คือการเข้าแถวรอการให้บริการหรือเพื่อทำอะไรบางอย่าง ซึ่งอยู่ในรูปของ first come, first servered คือใครมาก่อนก็ได้ก่อน คำว่า
คำว่าคิว หรือ queue ในภาษาไทยเราใช้ทับศัพท์มาจากภาษาอังกฤษแบบ British (แบบผู้ดีอังกฤษ)  ส่วนแบบ American (แบบอเมริกันชน) จะใช่คำว่า line ทั้งสองคำนี้ใช้ในรูปแบบที่เป็นคำนาม
definition หรือคำแปลของสองคำนี้คือ
row of people, cars etc that are waiting one behind the other (Longman)
(แถวของคน รถ หรืออื่นๆซึ่งต่อกันไปเรื่อยๆ)

กริยาของการเข้าแถวภาษาอังกฤษ มีให้ใช้อยู่หลายคำ แล้วแต่ว่าถนัดแบบผู้ดีอังกฤษหรืออเมริกันชน ดังนี้ครับ
ถ้าเข้าแถวภาษาอังกฤษแบบผู้ดีอังกฤษก็

• queue up
• be in a queue
• get in a queue
• join a queue
• stand in a queue

ถ้าเข้าแถวแบบอเมริกันชนก็

• line up
• be in a line
• get in a line
• join a line
• stand in line
• wait in line

ส่วนถ้าจะบอกเพิ่มเติมไปว่า เข้าแถวเพื่ออะไร ก็เพิ่มคำว่า for + something หรือ เข้าแถวเพื่อทำอะไร ก็เพิ่ม to do something แต่ท้ายเข้าไป ซึ่งจะเป็นอะไรก็จะแทน something ด้วยคำๆนั้น  รูปแบบของประโยคก็จะเป็น

• queue up/line up for +  something
• be in a queue/line for + something
• get in a queue/line for + something
• join a queue/line for + something
• stand in a queue/line + for something
• wait in a queue/line + for something
To Do Something
• queue up/line up for +  to do something
• be in a queue/line for + to do something
• get in a queue/line for + to do something

• stand in a queue/line + to do something
• wait in a queue/line + to do something

เช่น 
queue up for the toilets เข้าคิวเพื่อเข้าห้องน้ำ
line up for the ticket เข้าแถวเพื่อ(ซื้อ)ตั๋ว
be in a queue to get into the cinema เข้าคิวเพื่อเข้าไปดูหนัง
stand in line to get into the toilets เข้าแถวเพื่อเข้าห้องน้ำ
wait in line to buy iPhone เข้าแถวซื้อ iPhone

ในกรณีที่ต้องการพูดถึงคิวหรือแถวในรูปแบบของคำนามและบอกจุดประสงค์ของคิวหรือแถวก็ใช้คล้ายๆกันกับคำกริยา แต่มีเพิ่ม of เข้ามาอีกคำหนึ่ง คือ

• a/the queue/line of + something
• a/the queue/line for + something
• a/the queue/line + to do something

เช่น

the queue for the toilets คิวเข้าห้องน้ำ
a line for the bus คิวขึ้นรถเมล์
a queue for the van คิวขึ้นรถตู้
a queue of people waiting for the bus คิวของคนรถรถเมล์
a queue to get into the cinema แถวเพื่อที่จะเข้าไปดูหนัง

ถ้าอยากเติมให้รู้อีกว่าแถวหรือคิวที่เราเข้าหรือรออยู่ มันยาวก็ ใช้ คำว่า long queue/line หรือถ้า queue ไม่ยาวก็คือ  short queue/line นั่นเอง

ส่วนต่างๆของ แถว หรือ queue/line ก็จำแนกเป็น
หัวแถวก็จะใช้คำว่า

• the front of a queue/line
• the head of a queue/line

ท้ายแถวก็จะใช้คำว่า

• the back of a queue/line
• the end of a queue/line

กลับมาที่คำที่เราอยากนำเสนอวันนี้ คำว่าแซงคิว ในภาษาอังกฤษมีใช้อยู่หลายคำ เช่น jump the queue, jump in line หรือ cut the queue, cut in line การทำอย่างนี้เราเรียกว่า queue jumping, line jumping หรือ cutting in line, cutting the queue

นอกจากคำว่า jump ที่นำมาใช้ในกรณีที่แปลว่า แซง(คิว)แล้วยังมีอีกหลายคำที่มีความหมายที่คล้ายกันนี้ ได้แก่
butt in the queue/line
barge in the queue/line
bud in the queue/line
budge in the queue/line
skip the queue/line
ditch the queue/line
break the queue/line
short the queue/line
push in

คำนามอาการที่ทำการแซงคิวจากคำเหล่านี้ก็คือ
queue/line butting
queue/line barging
queue/line budding
queue/line budging
queue/line skipping
queue/line ditching
queue/line breaking
queue/line shorting
pushing in

คนที่ทำการลัดคิวหรือแซงคิวก็จะเรียกว่า line jumper/queue jumper หรือ line/queue cutter หรือ สั้นๆว่า cutter ส่วนคำอื่นๆ เช่าร line/queue skipper/butter/budder/breaker/budger ก็น่าจะใช้ได้

ที่นี้มาถึงว่าถ้ามีกรณีลัดคิวแล้วอยากจะไล่คนที่ทำการลัดคิวออกไปจากแถว จะใช้คำว่าอะไร มีกริยาหลายคำที่หมายถึงไล่ออกจากแถวคือ

Oust
• oust someone from something
Expel
• expel someone form something
• expel someone for doing something
• expel someone for something
Drive
• drive someone off something
• drive someone out of something

เช่น
expel him from the queue for jumping the queue. ไล่ออกจากแถวเพราะลัดคิว
oust the line jumper from the line ไล่คนที่ลัดคิวออกจากแถว
drive the queue jumper out of the queue ไล่คนที่ลัดคิวออกจากแถว

มาสมัยนี้มีการพัฒนาระบบมารองรับการเข้าคิว เรียกว่า electornic queue/line ซึ่งเป็นระบบออกบัตรและเรียกตามเลขที่ออกให้ การ jump the queue ก็ไม่เกิดขึ้น (unless the officer allow it to happen) นอกจากระบบจะช่วยไม่ให้เกิดการลัดคิวแล้วยังช่วยเก็บสถิติข้อมูลของการเข้ามาใช้บริการได้ด้วย

ที่นี้มาพูดถึงการเข้าแถวแบบไม่ได้เป็นการแซงคิวโดยไปต่อแถวหลังสุดจะเรียกว่า stand/wait at the end of the queue/line 

ส่วน line/queue stander หมายถึง คนที่รับจ้างไปเข้าแถวรอแทนคนอื่นมีให้เห็นทุกที่ทุกประเทศ

จะใช้ line หรือ queue ก็ได้ตามความชอบนะครับ แต่ไม่ว่าจะใช้คำใหนทั้งแบบอเมริกันหรือแบบอังกฤษดั้งเดิม ก็ไม่น่าจะมีปัญหาสำหรับ native speaker หรือเจ้าของภาษา

Butting in line is not permitted in the cafeteria at our school, you're not supposed to allow your friend to pass up everyone else just because you are in the front of the line.

A line stander is a person who stands in a line instead of another person.
line stander คือคนที่(รับจ้าง)เข้าแถวรอแทนคนอื่น

We need to oust that queue jumper from the queue to project our right.
เราต้องไล่ไอ้คนที่แซงคิวออกจากแถวเพื่อรักษาสิทธิของเรา

We can't let those queue jumper step in front of any of us. เราไม่ยอมให้พวกลัดคิวเข้าแซกด้านหน้าของเราไม่ว่าคนใหนก็ตาม
