สวัสดีครับวันนี้ English tips for Thai เกร็ดความรู้ภาษาอังกฤษ ขอนำเสนอภาษาอังกฤษคำว่า edible กับคำว่า eatable ที่มีความหมายไกล้เคียงกัน ที่แปลว่า กินได้ (can be eaten)
edible (Adj - เอดดะเบิล) คำนี้แปลว่ากินได้ คือกินแล้วไม่มีอันตรายไม่มีพิษ (suitable/safe for eating) นั้นเอง ยกตัวอย่างเช่น
Are these mushrooms edible? No, you are not supposed to eat them because they are poisonous and they are not edible.
เห็ดพวกนี้กินได้หรือเปล่า? ไม่ได้ๆ คุณไม่ควรกินเพราะว่ามันมีพิษ มันกินไม่ได้
จากประโยคข้างบนจะเห็นว่าถ้าเราจะบอกว่า กินไม่ได้เราก็เติม not ไปข้างหน้า edible เลย หรือเราอาจจะใช้คำว่า inedible (Adj - อินเอดดะเบิล) ก็ได้ ก็จะได้ความหมายว่ากินไม่ได้ (not edible/uable to be eaten) เหมือนกัน
eatable (Adj - อีท'ทะเบิล) คำนี้มีความไกล้เคียงกับคำว่า edible แต่มีความแตกต่างกันอยู่บ้าง (the meaning is slighly difference) eatable จะมีความหมายว่า รสชาติกินได้ ส่วนคำที่ตรงกันข้ามกับคำนี้ก็คือ uneatable (Adj - อันอีท'ทะเบิล) รสชาติกินไม่ได้ (cannot be eaten because of the taste/flavor)
Food that is edible may sometimes be uneatable.
อาหารที่กินได้บางที่รสชาติอาจจะกินไม่ได้

อาหารที่เหลือจากร้านอาหารอาจจะไม่ถูกเก็บไว้เพื่อนำไปทิ้งโดยทางร้านอาหารหรือลูกค้าก็อาจจะเอากลับบ้านเพื่อไปรับประทานในภายหลัง
