คำว่าร้อยแปดพันเก้า หรือ ร้อยแปด ในภาษาไทยแปลว่า จํานวนมากมายหลายอย่างต่างชนิด ในภาษาอังกฤษ คำที่มีความหมายใกล้เคียงกับคำนี้น่าจะใช้คำว่า a hundred and one/a thousand and one/a million and one คำจำกัดความ (definition) ของคำนี้ในภาษาอังกฤษก็คือ a large number of things or people ใช้เมื่อต้องการเน้นคนหรือสิ่งที่กำลังพูดถึง (emphasize that you are talking about a large number of things or people)
