We have the saying in Thai that has the same meaning as English saying which means a bad person could make all people in the group appear or look bad too. The saying in English is "one bad apple spoil the whole barrel" or "one rotten apple spoil the whole barrel". The saying in Thai we say, ปลาเน่าตัวเดียวเหม็นทั้งข้อง means "one rotten fish spoil the whole creel" or literally means one rotten fish make the whole creel smelly. The creel in Thai we call it ข้อง (khǿng) which is bamboo container to carry the caught fish.

ซึ่งเราคงคุ้นเคยกันอยู่บ้างไม่มากก็น้อย (more or less) ผมได้คัดเอาสำนวนที่มีคำนี้ only มา เป็นสำนวนโปรยนำข้างบน บางท่านอาจจะคุ้นหน้าค่าตาสำนวนนี้กันอยู่บ้าง สำนวนนี้น่าสนใจทีเดียวครับ ยิ่งในสมัยที่ technology ล้ำสมัยอะไรก็เร็วไปหมด ข่าวทาง social media ไม่ว่าจะเป็น facebook g+ หรือ twitter ก็มาเร็วเหลือเกิน เราก็ควรจะฟังหูไว้หูไว้บ้างครับอย่าเชื่อในเรื่องที่คุณได้ยินทั้งหมด อย่าพึ่งด่วนสรุปว่าจริง ที่ภาษาอังกฤษเขาใช้คำว่า don't jump to conclusions หรือ don't rush to conclusions นั่นเอง ส่วนส่ิงที่เราเห็น บางทีก็หลอกตาเราได้เช่นกัน เขาก็เลยบอกว่า believe only half of what you see ให้เชื่อเพียงแค่ครึ่งหนึ่งของสิ่งที่คุณเห็น you can't just judge the book by its cover (อย่าตัดสินคนที่ภายนอก) เอาละครับก่อนที่ผมจะพาคุณๆท่านๆทั้งหลายไปไกลกว่านี้เราวกกลับมา ที่คำว่า only กันก่อนดีกว่า

จะเห็นได้ว่าประโยคเดียวกันใช้คำเดียวกันหมด เพียงแค่ย้ายคำว่า only ไปแต่ละส่วนของประโยค (places only in different position in the sentence and the meaning of the sentence also changes) ความหมายของประโยคก็เปลี่ยนตามไปด้วย

วันนี้ในเกร็ดความรู้ภาษาอังกฤษอยากจะนำเอาคำง่ายๆที่เราใช้ทุกวันพูดคุยให้ฟัง(อ่าน) ซึ่งก็คือคำว่าเปิดและปิด คำว่าเปิดและปิดในภาษาอังกฤษมีใช้อยู่หลายคำด้วยกัน ซึ่งมีทั้งที่ใช้ในความหมายเดียวกันและที่แตกต่างกัน
